Silver has been used in the fabrication of jewelry since it's discovery
5000 years past due to it's lustre and malleability, being easily crafted
in the hands of a skilled worker, and worn for aesthetic adornment, statement
of wealth or status, and / or as a store of value.
Common adornments, both new and ancient are necklaces, bracelets, rings,
earrings, bands, pins and medals and are worn around the world throughout
all cultures, countries and ages.
Silver Jewelry
accounted for the usage of approximately 160 million ounces in 2007, or
about 15 - 20% of production from the year. This off take has been relatively
consistent the last ten years ranging from a low of 140 million ounces in
1998 to a high of 180 million ounces in 2003.
