Silver, as a anti-microbial agent and bactericide, is
used extensively throughout the medical field in many applications,
including silver impregnated bandages and gowns, salves
(silver sulfadiazine), ingestible liquids, and in water
filtering and environmental control or conditioning systems
to contain infection. Silver is also used in the manufacture
of certain medical and surgical instruments and in x-rays.
Research recognizing and extending these properties and
applications of silver are ongoing, as the medical field
increasingly looks to create healthy environments for patients
and staff through incorporating the further use of silver.
